João Vinte
e Um
(He, She, It)
Évora, Portugal, 1987
Master in Landscape Architecture, The University of Lisbon
(2006 – 2011)
João’s artistic journey is an ever-evolving process of creative
self-discovery.
He began his path in high school, studying Arts, before
pursuing landscape architecture.
A true "Man of many Arts and Crafts," João has studied/worked
as a sushi maker, piercing artist, tattoo artist, barber, and he is currently working as a
glacier guide in Iceland.
His artistic practice spans a variety of mediums, including
photography, painting, drawing, embroidery, and sewing. Throughout his eclectic
journey, João has explored themes of male sexuality and emotional
vulnerability, challenging conventions and redefining what it means to be a strong
man.
His work finds the extraordinary in the ordinary, always
with a touch of unpredictability.
He tells us:
"I don’t make art to follow rules. I make it to feel, to express what’s on
my mind, in my body, and in the world around me. There’s a lot of movement in
my work — it’s not about perfect lines or polished ideas. It’s about
discovering what happens when I let go and just create.
Color is how I communicate instinctively, mixing shades that might seem out of
place but come together to express how I feel. My art doesn’t seek perfection —
it’s a raw, authentic journey of making sense of the world one piece at a
time."
João lives between Lisbon and Iceland.
